To ensure the security of COTAK, when you first connect iTAK or ATAK to our server, the server issues an individual encryption certificate, which ensures that your data is securely transmitted to other COTAK users. This certificate is valid for one year and will need to be renewed annually to keep your TAK app connected to our server.
NOTE: COTAK will not force you to change your password on a schedule; however, the Certificate Expiration will have the effect of disconnecting you from COTAK. To facilitate making sure you do not lose connectivity, COTAK will send out notices starting about 2 weeks before expiration.
If you have received a notice that your certificate is about to expire, follow this procedure to generate a new certificate to replace your expiring one. That new certificate will last a year from the date it is created.
The screenshot above is from ATAK and shows how it looks when you are not connected to our server. This can be because you have no service, have not added a connection, or your certificate has expired.
